Tilty

We’ve been playing a lot of poker lately. I’m suprised I haven’t done a comic about it sooner. Over the weekend some of us went to Ohayocon. It was bigger than last year. I restrained from buying anything, but we did get a bunch of pictures of people dressed up. I hope to get those pictures up this week. I used my Christmas gift certificates to buy Resident Evil 4. I know I have made fun of the first one in the past, but RE4 is by far the best survival horror game I’ve ever played. The controls are tight, the visuals are incredible and the whole game is better than most horror movies I’ve seen. If you’re like me and never really tried Resident Evil, RE4 is a good place to start. Continue reading "Tilty"

WoW!

Since all I do in my free time is play World of Warcraft I decided to do a comic about it. I have come to the realization that I cannot keep up with the amount of entertainment that I have. So now I am multitasking. I have my old laptop setup to use for AIM, I am playing Warcraft on my eMac, and I have a monitor hooked up to my PS2 so I can watch 24 Season 3. Since Season 4 started I need to catch up. This has doubled my Geek efficency! Once I get caught up on my DVDs will I dare take the next step of playing 2 video games at once? Only time will tell. Blackout – Part 2

Here’s part 2 of our ongoing story. I have a long rant I want to make but its late because I’ve been playing World of Warcraft. So maybe I’ll post it in the morning. Good morning. If anyone has ever wondered why I play console games more than PC let me describe for you how I spent Tuesday night. Brad picked up two copies of World of Warcraft because I thought it was finally time to try one of these MMORPGs that are so darned popular. The game comes on four discs and I started installing about 6:30. I wish I would have timed it to see how long it took, but once I got through all four discs I had to download the latest patch. This was about 55MB and even though they use torrents it still took a long time. Even after it finished downloading it still took several minutes to install the patch. By the time I got to the point I could actually play the game it was about 9:30. But there was a catch, I still couldn’t play the game. When I tried to create a character the models weren’t showing up and I had all kinds of graphical crap everywhere. Since I am on a Mac I don’t have to download updated video drivers because they are included in each OSX update. Luckily the next day Goz found on the forums that there was a video setting I could change that would fix the problem. So in all it took me several hours to play a game whereas on a console I just have to put in a disc. Now I know I said I was on a Mac but in the past I have had even worse problems in PC gaming. I seem to remember one game that didn’t work with the most recent video drivers so I had to install old video drivers. Maybe if you have a top of the line PC you don’t have as many problems with games but you still have to sit through the install and patching process. That being said World of Warcraft is a really sweet game. You can get a bunch of quests and do them in whatever order you want. You can explore pretty much anywhere. I guess the only thing I have to compare it to is City of Heroes that I played for about a week. I liked the character creation and the super hero theme of CoH but I think in the long run WoW seems like there is more to do and won’t get redundant as fast. Continue reading "Blackout – Part 2"

Handheld WAR! What is it good for?

I was really debating on whether or not to get the Nintendo DS. I think the fact that it sold out at so many places just made me want it more. Brad and I both picked one up with Super Mario 64 DS. I don’t know how to classify this system. It is less comfortable to carry then the original Game Boy but the games are so much fun I want to carry it with me. I thought the touch screen was going to be a gimmick but all the games I’ve seen utilize it in some way. Even though Super Mario 64 is my favorite Mario game I was worried that I would get tired of it quick, but they have added so many minigames, a couple extra levels, and 3 new characters to play as. The DS also comes with a Metroid Demo which has 3 training levels and multiplayer. I don’t think the multiplayer is that interesting when you only have a blaster and missles. Even Doom had more weapons. Oh well, I am way too tired to give the DS a thorough review. I also have news on a charity that Brad (the other guy in today’s comic for those that are new) started up. We are taking donations of toys and games for Children’s Hospital in Columbus. Are you copying Penny Arcade, you might ask. Absolutely. We rip off ideas to help kids. I’ll post all the information on how you can help tomorrow. Stay classy Bitsmack. UPDATE: Here is the Amazon wish list if you want to donate to the Columbus Geeks Children’s Hospital charity. We should have page to show our progress soon. Continue reading "Handheld WAR! What is it good for?"

The Game of Kings

Hey, here’s a comic. Saturday we had a party for Brad and Will graduating. There were like a bunch of Devry people there plus K-Dog, Cassadi, AJ, Megan and her friend Crystal. It was a really good time. Next week I head to Lakeside for my 10th year. Which means I’m going to need some guest comics. If you think you have what it takes to entertain a bunch of geeks send your comic to [email protected]. Continue reading "The Game of Kings"

NES Crossing

Today’s comic will cost you 1000 bells. I have to pay off Nook or his goons will break my legs. What… he doesn’t have goons? Then why am I paying him? A comic about Animal Crossing? What is this 2003? Well Brad picked up the game over the weekend and I finally got a chance to play it. The game is kind of like having a job. You do it every day and eventually you get to play NES games. This is too close to my real life. So far I have unlocked Tennis, which is a lame game, but the fact that you earned it makes it a little more enjoyable. The non NES portion of the game is fun. I look forward to the new stuff I get to do each day. Zelda, the Four Swords comes out on Tuesday. I actually preordered this one for a few reasons.
 1. I played it on the GBA against Goz and it was fun.
 2. Most of my friends still have their GBAs and link cables left over from Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles.
 3. I got a free t-shirt for preordering. Continue reading "NES Crossing"

Over-Improved

Here’s a comic. In other news I bought a comic book. More on that later. Comic Review: Astonishing X-Men #1 I don’t claim to be an expert on comic books but I have been collecting for about 14 years. However, I haven’t bought any comics in the last year because my favorite titles ended (X-Force, Generation X, Ghost Rider). When I heard Joss Whedon (creator of Buffy, Angel, Firefly) was writing Astonishing X-Men #1 I thought this might be a good read. I’m still kicking myself for not buying any of the comics Kevin Smith has written. Astonishing X-Men begins as Kitty Pryde is moving back into the X-Mansion. Professor X is apparently gone and the school is being run by Cyclops, Beast, White Queen, Wolverine and now Shadowcat. I don’t want to give too much away but Cyclops decides they need to be a super hero team again. The writing is pretty good. There are a couple suprises I didn’t see coming. And of course there are a few good Whedonesque jokes. My only complaints about the comic have to do with the artwork. Beast has the face of a cat now, and their new costumes aren’t that cool. Overall I thought it was a pretty good and I look forward to getting the rest of them. Continue reading "Over-Improved"

Risky Business

K-dog’s party was a lot of fun as usual. We played Risk early in the night. The other games that were played were Super Monkey Ball, Goldeneye, Pop’n Music, Karaoke Revolution, DDR and World Class Track Meet. I broke out a little Parappa the Rapper 2 and Rez later on. The next morning there was some GTA3 played then we went up to Club 180 to play K-dog’s arcade machines. New to the club was Kangaroo on free play. Saturday night we tried an interesting experiment. Brad, Will, Cassadi, Goz and I played a game of Risk. Except, Goz was in Kenton while the rest of us were in Columbus. We set up Will’s laptop and iSight so that Goz could see our game board. He also set up a game board at his place so he could see where all the armies were. The game took a little longer because we had to announce our moves to Goz so he could update his board but it really didn’t drag the game down as much as you would think. I wouldn’t want to throw another remote player into the mix because then I think it would be really hard to coordinate everything that’s going on. You could have a few people in two locations and I think that would work. Another idea we didn’t get to fully implement was using laptops to send secret messages to each other. I think Brad and Goz’s secret alliance gave Brad the upper hand. It would be more fair if everyone had a laptop. Check back tomorrow for a MAME cabinet update! Continue reading "Risky Business"
