Cliche is French for Cool

Cliche is French for Cool
Ah, the last resort for story ideas. Alt-Tab, boss key of the new millin millei decade. If you thought playing games at work was a new phenomenon you’d be wrong. Even back in the DOS days, those people lucky enough to have a computer at their desk would take time out for a game of Hugo, or Commander Keen. But what do you do when the boss walks by? Some of these games were smart enough to include the “Boss Key.” One hit of the boss key would display a DOS prompt or a Spreadsheet on your screen to make it look like you’re working. This is assuming your boss doesn’t look closely and/or has no idea what your job is. But RC this isn’t the 80s, how does this apply to me? Well I’ll tell you! If you don’t already know holding the Alt key and pressing the Tab key will allow you to scroll through your open programs. Suddenly, your game of Yahoo Checkers has been replaced with Microsoft Outlook. The people I work with send such a large quantity of email to each other they should not be surprised to find me reading it for hours on end. For added security, set your toolbar to auto hide. Keep in mind these methods will not work as well on full screen 3D games. When your boss catches you playing Battlefield 1942 its up to you to explain the affect of the Axis on your company’s accounting practices. Once you master these methods you’ll be killing time the Bitsmack way! Continue reading "Cliche is French for Cool"

I’ll "push back the release date" you!

I’ll "push back the release date" you!
Monday’s comic was delayed until today. The best shows you aren’t watching I’ve mentioned before how much I adore Cartoon Network’s adult swim lineup. Cowboy Bebop and Trigun got me hooked on anime. Well now they have some new cartoons. The Big O (Sunday 11pm) is often compared to Batman. The animation style is just like Batman the Animated Series. It’s like a big fighting robot cartoon with a slick 1940s look. Fooly Cooly (M-Th 12am) simply blew my mind. Words cannot describe this show. If I tried to tell you what it is about or why I like it, I would be degrading it by trying to give it definition. You must watch this show at least once. Blue Gender (M-Th 12:30am) hasn’t impressed me yet. A guy is frozen and wakes up to find the earth is infested with giant alien bugs. The humans that are left have (now brace yourself) giant robot suits. Granted they’ve only shown the first episode so I’m going to give it a chance. If anyone is watching these shows, let me know in the forum. I need someone to talk about Fooly Cooly with. Continue reading "I’ll "push back the release date" you!"

2-Bit Comics
Today’s comic was found underneath a cushion on my couch. Gamefly: One Month Later At the beginning of July I signed up for the Gamefly video game rental service. Here are my thoughts on it after one month. For those of you not familar with Gamefly, it is an online service where I can have 2 video games out at a time for as long as I want for $22 a month. That may sound like a lot, but it may actually save you money in the long run. In the month of July I rented 6 games, 2 of them very new releases. Had I rented from Blockbuster it would have cost me $36, and that is assuming they had the titles in I wanted. (Gamefly allows you to add games to your list before they are released, what are the chances I would have got WarioWorld from Blockbuster the first weekend it was out?) That $36 also does not take into account the late fees I would have incured because I had some games out longer. If you rent more than 4 games a month, Gamefly is cheaper than Blockbuster. However I’m also a game collector. Before Gamefly I very rarely rented games and instead would buy games when they hit the $20-$30 price range. Gamefly saved me at least $60-$70 on games that I seriously considered buying, but would have been tired of after a few days. I still buy games, but now I hold out for those few “must-haves” like KOTOR, The Wind Waker and Metroid Prime. I am certainly happy with the service but it does have its faults. Because they’re located in CA, it’s about 8-10 days from the time I send a game to the time I get the next one. Since I can have two games out at a time, I alternate so that I always have one at my place and one in transit. I’ll admit Gamefly isn’t for everybody. However, if you rent more than 4 games a month or get tired of the games you buy too quickly I recommend checking it out. Continue reading "2-Bit Comics"

Towerfest 2003

Towerfest 2003
I could explain what Towerfest is. Movie Review: Pirates of the Caribbean I went in to see Pirates hardly seeing any previews and having no expectations. That being said, it was probably the best movie I’ve seen this summer. Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom both give an enjoyable performance. It made me realize that no matter how much you spend on special effects, you still need characters with personality to make a good movie. The special effects in pirates were really good without being very obvious and distracting. I recommend this movie to anyone, because it has something for everyone. Continue reading "Towerfest 2003"

KOTOR is KO-tastic!

KOTOR is KO-tastic!
Today’s comic takes place 4000 years before Episode 1. For those of you that have your finger far from the pulse of the gaming community, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was released this week. Thanks to Bioware, the XBOX finally has a great RPG, the fact that it is Star Wars is just bonus. My full review will come later after the initial wonderment has worn off. So far though the game is really fun. Continue reading "KOTOR is KO-tastic!"
