The only thing we know for sure is that — no matter what — there will be some dork out there bitching and moaning about how great games used to be, and how they don’t make them like they used to.

I guess that’s my cue!

I mostly agree with the article, except on the following genre’s:

  • 9. Puzzle
I was looking all over the place for some good puzzle games for the GBA. I almost ended up buying Zoop for the original GB! With a portable unit I want to be able to pick it up and have a quick game, unfortunately I couldn’t find anything. Maybe I’ll have better luck this weekend.
  • 8. Light Gun
I have a girlfriend from college who LOVES Police Trainer. She plays it whenever she sees it. I like the light gun games too.

I think part of the problem is that they don’t make the games for the consoles. I would love to play Police Trainer or Time Crisis at home.

I also miss the good old days that when you bought a console you also got a full complement of peripherals and a game. The 2600 cost $200 (almost $600 in todays dollars) and came with two joysticks, a set of paddles, and a game.

    9. Puzzle

I think the point is they’re dying, not that they’re completely dead. Besides, can you name the last puzzle game released for GC, XBOX or PS2?

    8.Light Gun

"I have a girlfriend from college…" Ha Ha Ha, I’ll tell that joke to Heff next time I’m at the Playboy Mansion. Again, these are "dying" genres, other than House of the Dead III and Time Crisis, I haven’t seen any new light gun games.

She’s a friend from college and a girl, so doesn’t that make her a girlfriend from college?

But are they dying because no one is making them, so no one is playing them? Although it seems that Area 51 seems to pop up in a new incarnation about once a year…

Isn’t there just 1 Area 51 game? Seeing it at a different arcade doesn’t mean it’s a new "incarnation." My theory is that companies just aren’t making them anymore. I’d buy an XBOX puzzle game if it looked really cool and was $20.
