Occasionally I check out the DDRFreak website. I came across this funny post.
To give you some background there is a techno song in the game Beatmania called “V” that gets its melody from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. Last night on Joe Millionare they played part of this classical piece. A guy posted in the forums asking if anyone heard this new “all violin” version of V. It made me wonder just how much classical music will only be remembered for the commerical it was used in.

I think that classical music is almost always remembered by "civilians" (people who aren’t constantly listening to a certain type of music) through commercials. I was playing "In the Hall of the Mountain King" for Solo and Ensemble on my baritone last year. There is a commercial for M&M’s and some other product with the same song. The judge didn’t know what the song was until I played it and he reffered to it in front of me as "the song from the commercial".
That reminds me of an argument I got in with some other guys in a bar. The question was:
Do more people recognize Beethoven’s 5th (Windows Media or Real Media) or some song by the Beetles (I can’t remember the song).
Maybe that should be a poll?
Is The JieF really a moron, or did his music teachers not do their job….
…And, it is not just classical music either. I remember back in my high school days (late 80s) there was a new Nike commercial that featured the famous and popular song Revolution by The Beatles.
The next day, the dorks at school were talking about "that cool new Nike song".
Idiots.
